We understand you may have been told, “They’ll just outgrow it,” and we know how frustrating that advice can feel. At Own Pediatric Therapy, we treat both common and complex cases with care and expertise. We’re here to help your child find the solutions and relief you’ve been looking for.
What is Pediatric Pelvic Floor Therapy?
Pediatric pelvic floor therapy is a specialized treatment that helps children overcome bowel and bladder challenges with the support of licensed occupational and physical therapists.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and tissues at the base of the pelvis that support the bladder and bowel. When these muscles aren’t functioning properly, children may experience challenges such as bedwetting, constipation, urinary urgency, and incontinence.
At OWN Pediatric Therapy, we believe that true success goes beyond simply addressing the pelvic floor muscles. We recognize that many factors influence pelvic health and overall child development. That’s why we take a whole-child approach—considering all areas of development, including coordination and strength, sensory processing, nervous system regulation, posture and alignment, habits and routines, and more.
Our top priority is to identify the root cause of your child’s challenges and create lasting change. We don’t just focus on resolving symptoms; we work with your child to build healthy habits and routines that will support them for a lifetime.
Our goal is to empower your child with the tools and confidence they need to thrive.

What Does Treatment Look Like?
At OWN Pediatric Therapy, we work closely with your family every step of the way. Using a trauma-informed, play-based approach, we tailor our treatments to your child’s unique needs. Through play and engaging activities, we may focus on:
Strength & coordination
Balance
Posture & alignment
Sensory processing
Primitive reflex testing & integration
Breathing & airway function
Nervous system regulation
Healthy habits & routines
Toileting mechanics
Pelvic floor or “potty muscles” relaxation & strengthening
We also use techniques such as:
Soft tissue mobilization & abdominal work
Myofascial release
Biofeedback
Individualized home programs
Unlike adult pelvic floor therapy, which may involve internal assessments or treatments, pediatric therapy does not. With your child’s and your consent, we may perform an external examination of the pelvic floor muscles to assess their function. Your therapist will thoroughly explain this process and answer any questions you may have.
